Electroforming
3-Evening Metals Workshop

Imagine growing metal on formed and organic materials ... that's electroforming! If you can begin to see the possibilities in jewelry, small sculpture, glass, etc. you'll want to join us & experience the magic! You will learn about the process of
electroforming; how to set up a small, safe set-up in your own studio (without investing in expensive equipment!);
and how to trouble-shoot. Students are welcome to bring small items they would like to electroform in class. Basic
supplies and materials are included; additional supplies will be available for purchase.

Make’em & Wear’em 1-Day Metals Workshop
Instructor: Micki Lippe

10am – 5pm
Students will design and make four unique pair of earrings in a day!! Beads, wire, sheet metal will be used to make the
earrings. Basic soldering will be taught but most work will be done with cold connections. The day will begin with 
exercises designed to jumpstart the process that will lead to four finished pair of earrings by the end of the workshop.

MICKI LIPPE was the founder and first president of the Seattle Metals Guild. She served on the board of Pratt Fine Art Center and was President of Society of North American Goldsmiths. Micki was the chair for Seattle Metals Guild "Passing the Torch", the high school jewelry/metal sculpture exhibition. Currently she is the chair
of the Women's Shelter Jewelry Project. Micki teaches in Seattle and in other cities in the US.

An important part of her artistic development was a year spent living and sharing a studio Germany.

Most recently her work was shown in 4+1 at Pacini Lubell gallery in Seattle. This exhibition presented the work of four young jewelers who have been mentored by Micki. Her work is published in 500 Earrings, Art Jewelry Today and Adorn; and is included in the Tacoma Art Museum 9th Biannual.

Introduction to Hydraulic Forming
1-Day Metals Workshop

In this fun and fast-paced workshop, we will explore the process of adding texture, dimension and form to your metalwork, using tons of pressure!! No pressure on you, though – it’s actually quite easy! You’ll learn to make your own dies and experiment with pierced and folded forms. If you want to go beyond flat; need to repeat a specific shape quickly and consistently; or want to shortcut initial forming for a chasing/repousse project – you’ll want in on this one. Maximum 6 students. Some metals experience is recommended.

Surface Design
1-Day Metals/Mixed Media Workshop

For bookmakers; paper/mixed media; metal or polymer clay; jewelry artists looking to add depth and complexity to their work. Create your own unique texture, embossing plates and surface designs! Students will learn to etch intricate images into brass or copper using a process you can safely do in your own home/studio. You will design and produce several etched plates; learn about the process, properties, materials – and how to safely set up your own sparging tank. No experience is necessary. All supplies are included; additional supplies will be available for purchase.

Introduction to Chasing & Repousse
2-Day Metals Intensive
Instructor: Nancy Megan Corwin

10am – 4pm
Learn about the ancient art of creating unique and detailed bas-relief on sheet metal, known as chasing and repousse. Working on metal sheet, using both pitch and wood, students will be introduced to traditional methods of raising and forming of sheet metal from the back side using smooth faced punches and hammers (repousse) and detailing the front side of the metal with sharper, smaller steel tools (chasing). No experience is necessary (though some metals experience is helpful). Course # 09SMC82930  $245

NANCY MEGAN CORWIN is a jeweler, metalsmith, teacher, and writer. She received an MFA in Art Metals from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is an adjunct instructor at Cabrillo and Monterey Peninsula Colleges in California. She has taught at Penland, Pratt Fine Arts Center, Haystack Mountain School of Craft, etc. Her book on the techniques of chasing and repoussé, published by Brynmorgan Press, will be available in August. Copper + Bronze Clay 2-Day Master Class
