Media Survey: Sculpture, Clay, Glass

One of he most amazing things about art is that it gives you the opportunity to "What
if?" within an environment that is boundless! In this survey class, students will
develop and hone technical and intellectual methods that happen to be precisely those
used to transform scientific concepts into everyday technology. Discovering and
developing skills that will be applied to a variety of media (not to mention life!)
Expect to think and play hard - and create on a grand scale!

Kiln-formed Glass
3:30 – 5pm YOUTH/TEEN
January 5, 12, 26 + February 9 & 23
Students will be introduced to
processes that will expand their warm glass vocabulary and take kiln-forming to another
level. A variety of techniques using the torch, vitrograph, etc will be demonstrated. We
will use hot glass elements as well as "frit wafers" and no glass inclusions between
glass layers, including metals, minerals, mica, air bubbles and organic inclusions such
as leaves. We will also explore the use of printmaking techniques and etching in the
fusing process. Familiarity with glass cutting and with basic fusing and slumping
techniques is helpful, but not essential. Basic materials are included; additional
materials and tools are available for purchase.

Got the "I don't know what I want to do - but I ain't doing it blues?" How about
starting the New Year by digging inside and seeing what's begging to be expressed!? This
is a unique opportunity to explore several new processes; learn the basics in each - and
see what floats your boat! No experience necessary - except to play hard and think
outside the box! Basic supplies are included; additional materials are available for
purchase.

Students who are enrolled in on-going
classes and wish to have additional studio time are welcome to attend monthly studio
nights. Both studios are open, however studio space is limited, so be sure to call in
advance to reserve a spot. Plan on bringing your own project supplies and consumables.

Session 2 - November 3 - December 12
Fused & Kiln-Formed
Glass
4 - 5:30pm
Mondays: 11/3, 11/17, 11/24, 12/1
This is an on-going class that offers a balance of structure and freedom to explore the
possibilities of fusing and kiln-forming in a well-equipped studio setting. Students
will be introduced to new techniques each class in a series of process oriented
projects. Although sessions will build and expand upon skills as the year progresses,
students with basic skills or specific interest areas may enroll in any sessions. Basic
tools and supplies are included; additional materials will be available for purchase.

The Fabric of Our
Lives –Sculptural Textiles
1:30 – 3pm
Wednesdays: 11/5, 11/12, 11/19, 12/3
This is an on-going, process-oriented class that will expand your thinking about fibers
and textiles! Each session includes new processes. We will explore unique and unusual
fiber techniques including fusing, altering, felting (nuno, shibori, etc), color,
surface treatments and more! Imagine creating gossamer vessels; felted hats, scarves,
purses; designing your own garments…the possibilities are truly endless! No experience
necessary. Basic tools and supplies are included; additional materials will be available
for purchase.

Working With Metals
– Step by Step

Mondays: 11/3, 11/17, 11/24, 12/1
Students will explore the properties of a variety of metals – and learn about the tools
and processes used to shape, texture, form, connect and finish them. A great opportunity
to learn basic metal-working skills while building small sculpture or jewelry! No
experience is necessary. Basic tools and supplies are included; additional materials
will be available for purchase.

Mixing it Up – Glass + Metals

Wednesdays: 11/5, 11/12, 11/19, 12/3
Each session brings something new! This is a fun and fast-paced survey class designed
for students who want to explore BOTH Fused Glass and Metals. Expect to come away with
some basic skills + finished pieces in each. No experience necessary. Basic tools and
supplies are included; additional materials will be available for purchase.

Sculpture – Mixed Media

Thursdays: 11/13. 11/20, 12/4 & 12/11
Using a variety of media, students will explore the many dimensions of shape, texture
and form – and will work with the thought and assembly processes that make art so important in education. No experience necessary
– students should arrive ready to get messy and have fun! All supplies included.

WireWorks –Beyond Beads – MONTHLY
11/5 & 12/10
Wednesdays: 7 – 8:30pm
Are you getting bored with stringing beads?? Add unique wire elements, and take your
work to the next level. (Just in time for gift-giving & Holiday Parties!) We will
explore wrapping, weaving, and a variety closures and focal elements; as well as
finishing your work to make it look more professional. Experience is not mandatory.
Tools and basic supplies are included; additional materials are available for purchase.

Got the “I don’t know what I want to do – but I ain’t doing it blues”?? Join us for a
FUN evening of pizza, pop, music & creativity!! In Sept we’ll be making a corded
bracelet or neck piece. In Oct. we’ll be working with glass. No experience necessary –
all materials included. Register early, limited to 10 participants.
